Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Goodbye VileJournal. Have a nice implosion.
As of this morning, my status as a LiveJournal user is now officially terminated. This was over a year in coming, and I need not detail the causes here. I had been planning to commit to the final deletion on December 31st, and had announced such to my f-list there. But this morning, when I clicked in from offsite, I discovered that Every Single Post had been placed behind a Nanny-State cut, sternly warning passersby, "Oh, dear! You may not be Matureā„¢ enough to view whatever material might be in this post! Now, give me that crayon! You might poke your eye out!"

Sorry, my LJ friends, but that was just the final Last Straw.

It's over.

Did you know, before I heard Livejournal being bought by SUP, I've seen that same Nanny-State cut to some of my LJ Friends, wondering WHY they are doing that. There was NO "adult content" on their posts. They were just talking about their dog and Christmas thingy, and I was seeing that sign:

( You are about to view content that may not be appropriate for minors. )

You can read my post HERE -- I made that one on "public" for now so you can read it.

Anyway, I added you. Is that okay?

I dunno how LONG I'm gonna stay on Livejournal. I still have my account there but eveytime I think of deleting it "completely" it just BREAKS my heart since I have made so many wonderful friends that I've gone CLOSED to. So, for now, I am playing everything by ear on LJ. This SUP thingy really, really, really breaks my heart. Why 6Apart did that to us, is beyond me. They could've sold LJ to Korea, Japan, Australia, Canada....but RUSSIA??? C'mon, why Russia??? We know that "free speech" is not open there and many have been put to death just by expressing their "free speech" on Livejournal.

LJ has been pretty much "it" for social networking in Russia, and Russian users comprised an enormous chunk of the non-US users. SUP was already handling most of the Russian traffic, so that's how they got "in" with 6A. Unfortunately, SUP was notorious for violating their users' trust in the worst possible ways. Far worse than 6A -- while 6A was coyly forcing ads on paid users, SUP was busy selling outside access to users' private posts, among other things. LJ's "free speech era" was condemned to a slow death the moment 6A bought it.

But, yeah, leaving behind so many great friends and communities was a terribly hard choice.

*adds you back* :-)

I the the "Adult Content" thing is now selected by default. I think I left mine that way because my posts and comments have been known to contain the occasional expletive. But I had no idea they would put every one of my posts behind a cut -- and with a cut-tag that made it look as if I were peddling smut! Nutso.

BTW, when I read your post on [info]07refugees, you called Livejournal as "Vilejournal". This morning, it just came into view and everything seems "LOUD & CLEAR" that Livejournal -- if you do a "backward" on LIVE, it actually spells "EVIL". And so I call Livejournal as "Eviljournal" from now on. Every single person on that Advisory Board on LJ is EVIL.

I didn't know how else to get hold of you, but I hope you're okay after the tornadoes today. Actually, I hope you're underground - more tornadoes are coming. Take care.

I'm OK here. Apparently the last line of storms made quite a mess north and east of the downtown area. Harry Cooper Supply took pretty heavy damage, and several other buildings to the east as well. Nowhere near as bad here as what they got in Republic and Strafford, I'll wager.

Thanks, and here's hoping you and yours are safe too.

I'm currently cross-posting and most of my stuff is friends-locked there now or private.

I too have friends there and at some point I will have to cut my losses. Keep the stupid permaccount as a storage of sorts unless I get TOSsed. Because the shite just isn't worth it anymore.

***

One of my posts was nanny cut-- it was the one about the so-called war on xmas for crying out loud-- stuff that was available on every freaking news station and internet news site. I un-nanny cut it, left it up as public for a few days, and then p'locked it.

As for the rest, I am p'locking entries from last week at the end of this week. Every week.

Journaling shouldn't have to be this hard.
Live Urinal lost it's glam.

I am still hoping that one or two good friends in particular will start cross-posting.
And if they don't I may very well have to leave them in the dust and stinkage.

I've never been a regular updater, and even my commenting is sporadic and impulsive at best. So for most of my old f-list, naturally, there's little to motivate them to look me up here. But a few of my old faves have already joined me here, and I expect three or four more will in time.

The urinal at the gas station down the street is more than "live" enough for me. Gonna take a megabuttloads of sunshine to disinfect ElJay of the "life" breathed into it by 6A and SUP ... metric megabuttloads ...

And, OH, those poor dear Chreest-chuns ... that poor, poor persecuted minority majority mass of downtrodden innocents! OH, teh heart just braeks nau, dunnit?

XD
